Offering Meditation for Proper 23a – 15-October-23
15-October-23 (Matthew 22:1-14)
Jesus' warning in the gospel reading for today is that it's not about who we know or who we associate with that opens up the Realm of God for us. We should also say that it's not about doing good things either, like contributing to the offering. In fact, giving our offerings is not in order to prompt action by God. It is gratitude for what God has already done for us that prompts us to offer up our resources to further God's work. It is in recognition of what God is already doing and committing ourselves to be a part of it.
Let's consider that as we take up our offering.
Prayer:
God who is the source of all good things, we thank you for all the ways you bless us. We offer a portion of what you've so richly given back to you to help the message of your love go forth, to help those in need, and to help us to learn more about you. Use these gifts to bring your Realm into being and help us to be a part of it.
We pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.
