Offering Meditation for Advent 4C – 22-Dec-24
22-Dec-24 (Luke 1:39-45)
Elizabeth says that her child, whom we know as John the Baptizer, jumped for joy in her belly when Mary came for a visit, knowing that what God had promised through the prophets was being fulfilled. There are times when God chooses amazing situations to bring us closer into the beloved community. There are also times when God chooses mundane and hopefully common situations to do that.
When we visit those who are suffering and in pain, God's realm comes a bit closer. When people without food or clothing or shelter have it at last, God's realm comes a bit closer. When people who long for true and lasting peace find a place of rest and refuge, God's realm comes a bit closer.
We have the opportunity to be a part of that in giving of our time and efforts and in giving of our resources. Let's consider our role in fulfilling the promises of God as we take up our offering for today.
Prayer:
Please join me now if prayer.
God who loves us all, we thank you for the way you revealed your love to us in the person of Jesus. We also thank you for all the ways you continue to bless us and bring your promises into fulfilment. Bless these gifts, returned to your hand, that they support your ministries on this earth. Bless us as well that your presence and your loving community will be found among us.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior, Amen.
