Children’s Moment (Gospel) for Advent 4b – 24-December-23
25-Dec-23 (Luke 1:26-38)
If God is going to use a person to do great things, what do you think would be the most important thing about that person? What would they have to be like? [Pause for answers]
You might think that they would need to be likeable, or good speakers, or strong, or brave. Maybe it's humility. That's pretty important... But no. Those are all good things, but they aren't the most important.
The most important thing for those people who God uses to be is they have to be willing. When God comes calling us to do something. We have to be the one who says, "Yes. I'll do that."
Our story today is about Mary, the mother of Jesus. The story tells us that when Mary found out she was going to be the mother of the one God would send to teach us about God's love, she was surprised and shocked. She even wondered how God would do all that.
But in the end, Mary said, "May it be according to what you have said.", which is just another way of saying, "Yes God, I'll do that."
Let's talk to God about that.
God, we thank you that you sent us Jesus to teach us and to show us your love. We know that you need us to share that love with others. Help us to be like Mary, who, when you asked her to do something for you, said, "Yes God, I'll do that."
We pray in Jesus' name.
