Children’s Moment for Easter 7C – 29-May-22
29-May-22
Andrew is the son of a friend of mine. When I lived in Michigan, he was about your age, and I remember a time when my family and his were sitting together in church. One of the leaders of our church was praying and he was kind of loud. He did a lot of yelling in his prayer. After he got done, Andrew whispered, "You know, if he got closer to God, he probably wouldn't have to yell so much."
So, here's a question for you: What do you think prayer is?
The best answer to that question I've heard, is that prayer is talking and listening to God. We talk for a while and God listens and then we listen for God to talk back to us. We probably won't hear God's voice, but we might still understand what God wants us to hear and to know.
When Jesus prayed, he often prayed for his disciples... for us. He wanted us to know the love of God like he did. He wanted us to love each other. So, he prayed about those things.
So, how about we do that too.
God, we thank you for Jesus who teaches us so many things, even how to pray to you. We thank you that we know how much you love us because Jesus showed that to us. We pray for all of us here, and for all people everywhere, that they will know your love for them and that they will also love each other.
Amen.
