Children’s Moment for Epiphany A – 8-Jan-23
8-Jan-23 (Matthew 2:1-12)
Today's gospel story is about the wise men visiting the young Jesus. The wise men were people who studied the stars and they'd seen a star in the sky that they believed meant that a new king would be born. They gathered up gifts to give the new king and headed out to see him. It was a journey that may have taken up to two years.
When they finally came to where Jesus was, they found him and gave him their gifts: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.
We probably don't have any gold, frankincense, or myrrh lying around. What do you think are some things that we could do to show people that Jesus is our leader; the one who shows us how we should be? [Wait for answers]
I think we can do good things for other people and other living things. We can show people who Jesus is by how we behave. Sometimes, even, we can tell them about Jesus too.
Let's pray about that.
God, we thank you for our king Jesus, who shows us how to live and how to treat each other and our world. We thank you also for all the people in the church who help us learn about you. Help us to learn well and to do the things that show the world that you are our king.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
