19-Jan-25 (John 2:1-11)

In our gospel story for today Jesus is at a party and, like some parties, this one ran out of things to drink. The person who was having the party was embarrassed. Some of the guests were embarrassed. The party was going to be a disaster.
Then Jesus' mother came to Jesus and asked him to do something about it ... and Jesus did! He changed some water they had into really good drink, and everyone was amazed.
Now just so we're clear about this, Jesus doesn't promise to save all our parties. What he will do is help us when we're in trouble. Sometimes Jesus will help us to see a way out of the trouble. Sometimes Jesus will help us go through the trouble without being destroyed by it. The real promise is that Jesus will always be there with us, especially when we're in bad situations, to help us. And because Jesus is there with us, some amazing things can happen.
Let's pray about that.

Prayer

God, we thank you for Jesus, who came to help us, especially in times of trouble. Help us to come to you when we need help. Help us also to be there for others when they are in bad situations.
We pray in Jesus' name. AMEN
