Children’s Moment for Easter 3a – 23-Apr-23
23-Apr-23 (Luke 24:13-35)
Have you ever been somewhere and seen someone you didn't expect to see? [Wait for answers]
You know there's something about them that makes you think you should know who they are, but you can't think of it.
And then sometime later, it comes to you. It's your teacher or your dentist or someone else who you just didn't think you were going to see there and then.
This happened to some of Jesus' disciples. They were walking toward their home, and someone joined them. They didn't recognize that it was Jesus. They had a good excuse. They had watched him die on the cross just a few days before. Of course, they didn't expect to see him.
They talked about all kinds of things about how they could show other people God's love and finally, they invited him in for dinner with them. It wasn't until he prayed over the meal and broke the bread that they finally recognized him and then he just disappeared!
They left their dinner and ran back to tell the other disciples that they had seen Jesus.
That was a long time ago, but even today, we'll see Jesus at work in places that we don't expect and in times we don't expect. If we keep our eyes open, we'll see Jesus at work all around us.
Let's pray right now to ask God to help us with that.
God, we thank you for Jesus, who shows us how much you care for us. Help us to see Jesus at work around us and help us to join him in that work of sharing your love with everyone.
We pray in Jesus' name.
AMEN.
