Children’s Moment for Proper 7a – 25-Jun-23
25-Jun-23 (Matthew 10:24-39)
How many hairs do you think you have on your head? [Wait for answers]
Do you think you could count them? [Wait again]
The scripture for today says that we are so important to God that God has counted every hair on our head. What do you think that means?
[Wait again]
Counting the hairs Counting the hairs on your head might seem quite silly, but I think it's one way to say that God loves us so much that God knows each and every thing there is to know about us. Not only that, but God wants us to know what we can about God. We won't be able to know how many hairs God has on God's head (in part because God doesn't have a head like you and I do.)
What we can know is how much God loves all of us -- you, me, and everyone else -- no exceptions. We can know what God wants us to do: To love God, love others, and love God's creation. That's not a lot of things, but those things are very, very important. In fact, there is nothing more important that those things at all.
Let's talk to God about that.
God, we thank you for Jesus, who came to show us who you are and teach us how we should live. Help us to learn what we can know of you and help us to share it with the others we know.
We pray in Jesus' name.
AMEN.
