Children’s Moment (Gospel) for Proper 19a – 17-September-23
17-Sep-23 (Matthew 18:21-35)
Remember last week when we talked about what you would do if someone did something that hurt you badly? Today I want to talk to you about forgiving them. Do you think you could do that? [Wait for answers]
Yes, I think it would be quite hard to do that. It's sometimes even hard to forgive your brother or sister when they take the last cookie. This is much harder.
But Jesus says we need to forgive, even when it's really hard to do. Jesus says we have to forgive not just once, not even 7 times, but so many times we'll lose count. That's actually the point. If we keep count of how many times we've forgiven someone, we haven't really forgiven them, have we?
Let's talk to God about that.
God, we thank you for Jesus, who showed us how to forgive people, even when it was very hard to do it. We thank you that Jesus showed us how much you love us, so much that you forgive us all the time. Help us remember how you forgive us so that we can choose to forgive others the same way.
We pray in Jesus' name.
AMEN.
