When something is really important to listen to, what do you do? How can you be sure you can hear that one thing? [Wait for answers]
I'd say the most important thing to do to make sure you can really hear is not be paying attention to a lot of other things at the same time. Sure, you can walk and chew gum at the same time, but you can't really listen to someone when you're busy playing a video game or something like that.
When Jesus wanted to really listen to God, he went off all by himself to really listen.
When we really need to hear God, we may have to do exactly the same thing. We may need to go into our room, away from everyone else and just listen to God.
Let's pray about that.

Prayer:

God, who loves each of us, help us remember to spend time alone with you in order to really hear you. Help us to listen to you so we can be loving and caring just like you are.
