Children’s Moment for Proper B11 – 121-Jul-24
21-July-24 (Mark 6:30-34, 53-56)
In today's story from the gospel, Jesus feeds over 5000 people. Now I don't want to ask you how Jesus did that. I'm pretty sure I don't know either. What I want you to think about is why Jesus did that.
See, we often talk about how God cares about peoples' spirits and wants us to live in ways that are good and helpful. But, we should also understand that God cares about the basic things we need and wants us to help each other when we don't have even what we need. All through the Bible, God tells people to care about those who don't have enough to live and those who are likely to be forgotten. God tells people that we need to take care of each other.
So, when Jesus fed this group of over 5000 people, he was doing what God wants us to do. He was helping people in need.
Let's talk to God about that.
God, we thank you that you gave us Jesus to show us how much you love each of us, but also to remind us again that we need to watch out for each other and help those in need. Help us to do what Jesus did, not in miracles, but in working together and helping those who would otherwise not have enough to live.
We pray in Jesus' name. AMEN.
