Children’s Moment for Proper C13 – 31-Jul-22
31-Jul-22
When I was growing up, my brother and I had some toys that belonged to us both. We were supposed to share them. To be honest, that didn't always happen. Sometimes I would gather those toys where I was playing and try to keep them all to myself. Sometimes he would do that.
One thing I found out after a while was that, as fun as it is to play with toys by yourself, it's more fun to be able to play with them with someone else. I didn't always remember that, but when I did, I would share the toys.
When you grow up, you don't always have as much time to play, but you do have a lot of times where you can share what you have with other people. Sometimes it's simple: I have some water bottles at my house and the guy who is out by the freeway exit, sitting in the sun, does not. Sometimes I'll take him one.
Sometimes the people around me need someone to listen to them about the things that are happening to them. I can share my time and my attention with them and do that.
The thing is, there are lots of times when we can share what we have with others. And just like with the toys, it's more fun when you share what you have rather than keeping it to yourself.
Let's pray about that.
God, help us to be happy with the things we have and to enjoy them. Help us also remember that it's even better when we share those things with others. Don't let us keep all our things to ourselves. Show us the people around us who we can share with.
We pray in the name of Jesus, who you shared with us. Amen.
