Children’s Moment for Proper C16 – 21-Aug-22
21-Aug-22 (Luke 13:10-17)
Have you ever been told that there are some things you shouldn't do in church? Now some of those rules are good and helpful and, if your parents tell you not to do something, you should listen to them.
In Jesus' day there were a lot of rules about what you could do on the day people went to worship God. One of those rules was that you weren't supposed to do any work, because God rested on that day and so should we.
The problem was that there was a woman who was very sick and Jesus healed her. The leader of the place of worship was angry because Jesus had done work on the holy day, but Jesus said that it was right that this woman who had been sick for 18 years would be healed that very day.
Sometimes it's hard to understand exactly what God wants us to do. That's why we write down rules to help us know. But sometimes the right thing to do might not be in our list of rules. We need to ask God for help about doing the right thing all the time; even when we're not sure; even when it's not in our list of rules.
Let's pray about that.
God, we know that you love us and want us to show that love to others. Help us to find the right ways to do that. Help us to know when it's right (and when it's wrong) to do the things we want to do. Remind us to pray to you, so that you can help us know.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
