Children’s Moment for Proper C18 – 4-Sep-22
4-Sep-22 (Luke 14:25-33)
What is the hardest thing you've had to do? I want you to think about it. Remember it. Did you feel that you might not be able to do it?
Jesus was talking to his disciples one day and he said, "You know that being a disciple can be really hard. I want you all to think about what you've already had to do and what you might have to do and decide whether you think you can do it. Otherwise, it will be like you started to do that really hard thing you were just thinking about and decided part way through that you couldn't finish.
Now here's some good news: Even though being a disciple is hard, you don't have to do it all by yourself. Not only is God going to be with you to help you, but the people of the church will also be here to help you. It doesn't make it less hard, but it does help to have other people trying along with you.
Let's pray about that.
God, we know that, being a disciple can be really hard. Thank you for promising you'll be with us when we try to do that. Thank you also for all the people around us who can help us learn how to be good disciples and help us when it gets hard.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
