Children’s Moment for Proper C23 – 9-Oct-22
9-Oct-22 (Luke 17:5-10)
When someone does something nice for you, what should you do? [Wait for answers.]
Of, course, when someone does something good for you, you should thank them. Our story for today tells about 10 lepers. Those were people with a really bad disease of the skin that made people stay away from them. So, they were not only sick, but no one wanted to spend any time with them. Sometimes they were even suppose to carry bells around with them to ring so that people would stay away.
These 10 lepers saw Jesus and called out to him from a distance and asked him to heal them. Jesus did. In fact as they were going to show themselves to the priests, which they had to do in order to be allowed to come back and be with people, they all realized that they'd been healed.
One of them (only one) came back and thanked Jesus. What do you think Jesus said?
He did ask about the other nine, but mostly, Jesus just told the former leper that his faith had made him well. Obviously, Jesus was disappointed that only one of them stopped to thank him, but he didn't take back the healing or go find the other 9 and yell at them. He just gave a blessing to the one who did show thanks.
Let's pray about that.
God, we know that you're always doing great things for us. Help us remember to take the time to thank you as you deserve. Help us to be grateful not just to you but to all the other people who help us, our parents, our teachers, our friends, and family. Remind us to take the time to tell people that we appreciate what they do for us.
Also, when we do good things for others and they don't remember to be thankful, help us not to get angry with them and decided to do something mean back. Help us to be like you when you do good things for people even whey they forget to be thankful for them.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
