Today's Devotion
The creation story, here at the beginning of the Bible, is so powerful because it illuminates the awesome reality we see in our daily lives. It illuminates the fact that we were specially made by God, our Creator. We who are mere humans are called into being to participate as living members of this world, the earth, the universe.
It is often difficult for me to remember this as I go about my daily life. To remember that I too am called out of the chaos, the primordial dust, to engage the world in a unique way. I sometimes forget that I, too, am a living participant in Creation. It is so easy to get bogged down by daily routine, the stress of living in a poor economy, the raising of our families, the daily news, that I forget.
It is important for me to be intentional about remembering the path of Creation, and creating. It makes all the difference in my life when I take a few minutes in meditation to listen to what God is saying to me today, to hear the voice of Creation speaking. I have to make it a practice to invite a friend for a walk so that we can go out and observe the beauty in nature that reminds me of the beauty, love, and peace that exists in this sometimes violent world. The fact that we are all created and specially made by God with a purpose, a path, which leads us and joins us in the divine love and peace of God, is something I must remember daily in order to participate fully in Creation.
