DisciplesNet Worship # 17, “This is the Treasure” (Borschel, 02-27-2011)
In this second message encompassing the Week of Compassion, Audrey Borschel draws from her own experiences to weigh the human tendency to worry against Jesus' teachings in Matthew 6:24-34 "to consider the lilies."
Music for this video brings in the popular Phoebe Spier with her own arrangement of, "Seek Ye First." Dean Phelps, accompanied by Ruth Adams on piano, leads singing of communion with, "In Remembrance of Me."
And in a special tribute, Rosa Page Welch (1900-1994), African America Disciples of Christ singer, bridge-builder, missionary, and minister is featured in a special audio recording from one of her tours in the 1970s or 80s. This gifted artist is increasingly recognized as being one of, if not the, most influential Disciples leaders in the world in the age she lived. Her constant call was for God's children all around the world to treat each other with love, dignity, and compassion. Mrs. Welch is heard singing Sydney Carter's hymn of compassion, "When I Needed a Neighbor," with some of her own lyrics added in.
