Our world seems to be increasingly violent with a new act of terror or tragedy on the news every day. What are disciples of Christ to do? We hope you will join us for worship this week as we explore the church's response to violence and God's response to God's people in times of violence. This week's worship is in song, prayer, scripture, and communion, but also in a special message we are honored to share with you by Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr.. Rev. Jackson is President of the National Convocation of Disciples of Christ and pastor of East Sixth Street Christian Church in Oklahoma. We've created this worship as some of DisciplesNet's key leaders are in Columbus, Ohio, gathered with thousands of Disciples of Christ from the USA and Canada for General Assembly. And from the assembly, Rev. Jackson agreed to share a special word with us about the ripple effects of violence that he is seeing and the tough call that we as Christians are called to make in response.
Our worship is 30 minutes long, and includes a special spiritual song of lament sung by the gifted pastor-singer, Rev. Dr. Twana A. Harris-along with two other favorites at DisciplesNet--"On Eagle's Wings," and "Lord Make Us Instruments of Your Peace." We hope that you'll be blessed by worshiping with DisciplesNet, finding ways your own faith in God can grow in theses trying times.
As we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me."
If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond all earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink, such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)
We hope that as you join us for worship you will feel a blessing from being part. Please tell friends, family, and others you know about our online church that is here with doors that are always open, walls as wide as the world, and always room at the table.
