DisciplesNet Worship # 28, “Fearless Thomas” (Shaw 05 01 11)
Today's scripture looks at the John 20:19-30 passage about the disciple Thomas, who missed out on seeing the risen Christ on Easter evening. Because Thomas said to the other disciples that he would need to touch Christ's hands and side in order to believe them about Christ being risen, this has given him the nickname, "doubting Thomas" over the years. From that text, Bob Shaw brings a message of hope and mission to our worship, describing how Thomas eventually took the gospel message farther than probably any other disciple, going as far as India.
With that recognition, our DisciplesNet friends in and from India come in to help make India a special theme of this video. Rahul Nirmal, long-time DisciplesNet pastor now living in India has Skyped in one of our prayers today.
However #28's special guest is one that DisciplesNet is humbled and honored to feature. This is Marjorie Hill, who was born with her sisters to missionary parents serving India, then served 40 years as a missionary herself in India. In closing parts of our worship, Ms. Hill speaks a wisdom that, like Thomas, travels the globe, except now we can do it on the internet.
Those who speak Hindi may especially appreciate Marjorie's special message to you. In turn, we hope that you will pass this along to others who might be moved by her message.
Two additional highlights of this worship video: the beautiful paintings of India used on our header (by Helen Sturbaum)), and willingness of two University of Chicago Divinity School seminarians, Katherine Raley and Brandon Cook to read scripture.
