DisciplesNet Worship # 30, “The Good Shepherd” (Jones 05 15 11)
Video #30 marks DisciplesNet's 6-month anniversary. We are still young and learning, and working to adapt our worship videos to be church for individuals who can't easily get to a physical church, for those who need that extra pick-me-up during the week, and for those who enjoy being part of a ministry that reaches across the globe.
We appreciate that a growing number of pastors are tuning in to DisciplesNet, and hope the theme of today's video, Psalm 23 and the Good Shepherd, will bring a sense of peace and God's presence for these shepherds as well as all of us who need shepherding.
Our message today is brought by Assistant Minister Patty Jones, who coincidentally found herself preaching this message after a particularly harrowing day as chaplain on charge in a downtown big city hospital, bearing God's presence for several individuals who passed away. So, when she preaches Psalm 23, she carries a sense of familiarity and conviction in its meaning.
A special treat on this video is the powerful musical combination of Rev. Dr. Twana A. Harris and Rev. Dean Phelps, who came to our studio and sang "Peace in the Valley" and "Balm in Gilead."
Rev. Bob Shaw and his wife Susan McNeely bring the communion meditation and prayer, even as they prepare to leave next week for a trip to visit Disciples of Christ in Congo (next week's worship will have that Congo and global connection at its heart).
Finally, we are delighted to have one of our DisciplesNet faithful members and supporters, Alan Adams, joining us in reading today's scripture, one of the firsts in his life in being able to contribute this way to worship.
