DisciplesNet Worship # 35, “Who tells the Spirit?” (Shaw 06 12 11)
DisciplesNet Worship #35 comes to you in celebrating Pentecost, the birthday of the church. In addition to a meaningful message and story by Rev. Bob Shaw of DisciplesNet, we have several other inspirational pieces that contribute to this worship.
Perhaps most stirring of all is Disciples of Christ singer/songwriter Thom Schuyler singing his own work, "One Piece of Bread," during a special time of communion that features the words of institution given in six languages. We are deeply grateful to Thom for allowing us to use this hymn (which can be found in Chalice Praise, and on Thom's website, thomschuyler.com). Also back are the popular team of Twana A. Harris and Dean Phelps, who open the video with "Every time I Feel the Spirit."
Another extra is Sheila Spencer, Program Director for Disciples Women, who shared her talent in reading our opening prayer from Kenya (by Pamela Wilding, in Prayers Encircling the World, Westminster John Knox Press, 1999, p 63).
The rendition of "Spirit" is special to our Senior Minister, Deb Phelps; it is a recording of it being sung at her service of ordination on June 19, 2010. We hope the spirit is moved in you as you participate in this worship, and go out to share God's spirit with those around you.
If you haven't seen our special 10-minute video, "The Gift of Pentecost," you will want to see this and be uplifted by hearing John13:34-35 in sixteen languages, accompanied by the song, "The Gift of Love."
Peace and grace,
Deb Phelps
