DisciplesNet Worship # 58, Advent 2, “In Defense of Scrooge” (Shaw, 12-04-2011)
Welcome to DisciplesNet Church. This week's worship follows the tradition of seeing advent as a time of anticipating the birth of a Messiah as foretold in prophecy. For this each week we light a candle on our Advent Wreath, built upon the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love that lead up in anticipation to the birth of the Christ child. This week we light during our time together the candle of Peace.
If you have an advent candle, you may like to light yours as we light ours during worship. Our worship is rich with music and opportunities to sing along. Rev. Bob Shaw delivers a message you'll not want to miss, "In Defense of Ebeneezer Scrooge." After the message we will have a time of Communion, led by Deb Phelps. All are welcome to join us in communion, by gathering bread or cracker and drink (or using symbolic actions or images) to remind you of the last Supper, and Jesus' sacrifice for us.
We welcome to this worship Rev. Dean Phelps, who in addition to playing and singing with our music, helps with our Advent readings and Pastor's Prayer. This worship we also sing the increasingly popular advent song, "Let Us Walk in the Light of the Lord," written by DisciplesNet Associate Pastor, Audrey Borschel.
We hope you will be blessed by this worship, and tell your friends about our church on the internet highway with walls as wide as the world, doors that never close, and always room at the table.
