Offering Meditation for Proper 19a – 17-September-23
17-September-23 (Matthew 18:21-35)
The scripture for today is one of those that show us how the Church is supposed to be run differently than any of the other institutions we come into contact with. Our whole "business" is built around the concept of building community and as highlighted in the scripture, treating others with love and forgiveness. As different as the Church is, it does bear some things in common with other endeavors. One of those commonalities is that we need resources, both human and physical to do the work. The work of the Church goes on because we generously give of our time, our efforts, our gifts, and our resources.
Let's consider how each of us can be a part of that as we take up our offering.
Prayer:
Please join me in prayer.
Loving, forgiving God, we thank you that you have given us so much and continue to give us gifts, talents, time, energy, and other resources. Help us to be generous in giving those back to you that the work of your Church can be done.
We pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.
