Table Meditation (Gospel) for Advent 3C – 15-Dec-24
15-Dec-24 (Luke 3:7-18)
John warns the people that "the ax is lying at the root of the trees" and "the winnowing fork is in his hand".and even that there is an "unquenchable fire" waiting for all that is not good. It is the full measure of God's grace that we do not have to fear those things because of the gift of Christ that forgives us from sin. As we come to the table today, let us consider again the love of God that would not let our sin keep us out of relationship with God.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God whose love reaches out to us beyond any and every thing that would keep us from you, we thank you for that love that we know through your son Jesus, the Christ. We thank you that we have the example of his life to know what "fruit fit for repentance" looks like in a human being. We thank you for his sacrifice that overcomes sin and death for us. We thank you for these symbols for bread and cup that remind us of all of that.
Now, as we take the bread and cup, let us become your voice, your hands, your active presence in our world so that, through us, others might see your love as well.
In the name of Jesus, our Savior, Amen.
