Table Meditation (Old Testament) for Easter Sunday – 9-Apr-23
9-Apr-23 (Jeremiah 31:1-8)
The scripture from Jeremiah for today foretells the time when the exiles would return to Israel from Babylon. It tells of joyful dancing and music-making celebrating their freedom and return to a place where they can thrive.
The elements at the table don't look like a feast, but they are a simple celebration of our freedom from sin and a glimpse our place in the realm of God.
Sin and death are conquered. Christ is risen. Let us celebrate our new life and hope.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who welcomes us into your realm as it comes into this world,
we thank you for Jesus, who has secured life and freedom for us.
We thank you for this bread and cup that remind us of all he gave to open the way for us. We thank you that you did not leave him and you will not leave us in the grave, but our risen Lord is the one who welcomes us all to the table.
As we take the bread and cup, empower us with the Spirit that raised Jesus to live again that we might carry the good news of your love into the world in his name.
AMEN.
