Table Meditation (Gospel) for Easter 6B – 5-May-24
5-May-24 (John 15:9-17)
Jesus said, "Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." Then he went and proved it by laying his own life down for our sake. Most of us will never have the opportunity to actually give our life so another may live, but we can, every day, lay down our ownership of our lives and give our time and talent to serving others. As we come to the Table today, think of the others that are joining you, either right here in the same room or in other places and other times. It begins here.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who lays down your life for us, we thank you for the gift of Jesus, who lived to show us how to live and who died that sin and death would die with him. We thank you for this bread and cup that serve to remind us of that. As we take the bread and cup, fill us with your Spirit, to empower us to lay down our lives in service to all. Let us know your love by living it out.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
