23-Jan-22 (Luke 4:14-27)
Jesus said, in our gospel reading for today, that the scripture was being fulfilled in their hearing. He meant a lot by saying that, but one thing he meant was that they would see God doing exactly what God had promised in that scripture.
Now, here is another scripture: When Jesus sat with his disciples for his las supper, he prayed to God that they would be one, even as he and God were one. As we remember Jesus at the table we should also remember those words and think on the possibility that they could be fulfilled in us and by us.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who wants us to know the joy of being one with you and each other, we thank you that we can hope to see you promises made real before us. We thank you for Jesus who came to teach us your way and died to open the way of true oneness with you. We thank you for these symbols of that gift, the bread and cup that represent his body and blood.
We pray that as we take the bread and cup, you would also fill us anew with your Spirit, that we could take up the task of drawing the world into oneness with you by sharing the Good News of your love for all.
In the name of Jesus, our Savior, Amen.
