26-Nov-24 (Matthew 6:25-33)
In our gospel reading for today, Jesus says we should seek God's kingdom and God's righteousness. It is hard to take our minds and eyes off the things we need and want, but one way to do that is right here at this table. Here we remember the grace of God given to all of us. Here we remember the love of God shown to us in the life and teachings of Jesus. Here we remember that that love was so strong that it faced death itself and showed that even that wouldn't separate us from the love of God.
When we remember these things, we're more able to set our minds and hearts of the ways of God.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God, you are the one who first reached out to us in love and showed us that love in the person and teachings of Jesus. We thank you for Jesus himself. We also thank you for this feast of remembrance that he gave us, for the bread and cup the remind us of the depth of your love.
As we eat this bread and drink from this cup, fill us again with your Spirit, that we can embrace your ways and carry the message of your love into the world around us.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, Amen.
