10-Apr-22 Palm Sunday (Luke 19:28-40)
There is no question in our Palm Sunday celebrations that Jesus is a King. The problem comes when we try to impose our ideas of earthly kings upon him. Jesus is a King, but he's a king like no other. He's the King that teaches us how kings should be.
Instead of riding into town with an army and entourage, he rides into town on a donkey, surrounded by the common people. Instead of throwing a lavish feast in his own honor. He has a quiet meal with those he now calls his friends. A meal that we still remember today, in part because of how different it was.
Jesus is truly a king, but the Realm of God is not some kingdom for the elite, brought into being by force. The Realm of God is open to all who would come and brought into being by love for each other and for all.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God whose love in at the center of all you do, we thank you for Jesus, who came to show us the truth about your realm and your way. We thank you that he came and taught and that he even bled and died to show that love to us. Help us to truly remember Jesus as we take these symbols of his love. As they nourish our spirits, fill us again with your Holy Spirit so that our hearts will be changed in remembering and our actions in your world will show our King and his love to the world.
In the name of Jesus, our Savior, Amen.
