21-Jul-19 (Luke 10:38-42)
Like all of us, Mary and Martha come together at this table. Some folks have been involved, with careful attention, to preparing what we see before us. They do so because of the value these symbols and this act have in our life of worship together. Some folks gather with open, joyous expectation at drawing close to Jesus, feelling the love and mercy of God, and focusing on the important thing that we do now. Both of these impulses are necessary to what we do here and all who are driven by either or both are welcome here.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who loves each of us dearly and gives us the purest and finest impulses that drive us, we thank you for the Marthas that have prepared the table before us. We thank you for the Marys that gather with us here. We thank you that we are all a bit of both.
Now, as we take the bread and cup together, fill us anew with your Spirit, that we may have the strength and courage to continue to do your work in the world and that we may have the faith to draw near to your presence. As we go from this place let us serve you in all our capacities, that the world will see you through us.
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
