Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 13b – 4-Aug-24
4-Aug-24 (John 6:24-35)
Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." That's because a life of pursuing Christ-likeness is also a life of empowerment and grace that never quits. As long as we follow Jesus, he gives us the strength we need to follow. Along the way, there are points of refueling and refreshing our vision of Christ. Here's one now. At the Table, we remember who Jesus is. We also remember all he gave in order for sin and death to be put aside. In remembering, we also recommit ourselves to living out that grace in our relationships.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God, who gives us a clear vision of what we can be in Jesus, who refreshes and restores us so we can live it out, and who walks beside us every step of the way, we thank you for this bread and cup, symbols of the true bread of life and cup of salvation that we have in Jesus. We thank you for our brothers and sisters that gather at this or other tables throughout our world. Thank you for their witness and the help and inspiration we get from them.
We pray that as we take this bread and cup, you would also pour our your Spirit upon us, that we could show your image to a world that so desperately needs you.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
