Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 14a – 13-August-23
13-August-23 (Matthew 14:22-33)
There are times when I wish for big miracles, like walking on water and calming the storm. But, most of the time, I'm looking for "smaller miracles," like God calming the chaos in my life and in my mind or just walking through the next day. We have a "smaller miracle" before us right now: As we gather at this Table, Jesus is present as our Host and, because the Lord is here, we are transformed into God's Church and connected with both God and God's Church in every time and place. When you think about it, it's not that small a miracle after all.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who calls us together here and makes the Church out of us, thank you for your grace, which covers and fills us now. Thank you for this bread and this cup, that remind us of how much you gave to make this possible. Thank you for all those not so small after all miracles that you give to us each day. In Jesus name, AMEN
