Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 15a – 20-August-23
20-August-23 (Matthew 15:10-28)
Jesus said that it's not what goes into our mouths (or doesn't) that changes us for good or ill. It's what comes out of the heart. This is true here at the Table as well. It's not the bread and cup that we take that change us. It's what they represent. As we consider the elements before us, we remember Jesus and how much God was willing to do in order that we could have a right relationship with God, with each other, and with God's world. It isn't the bread and drink that transform us, but the love of God that comes to us and then moves out of us.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who loved us so much that nothing was too much to give to embrace us, let us embrace that all-giving love. Thank you for the bread and cup, that remind us of your unfailing love. Fill us with your Spirit, that your love will flow out from our hearts and change ourselves, our families and friends, our cities, countries, and world. In Jesus name, AMEN
