Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 19a – 17-September-23
17-September-23 (Matthew 18:21-35)
Jesus says we're supposed to forgive wrongs done seventy-times-seven times. In other words, too many times to keep count, so just don't keep count. When we're living up to that standard, the Table, where we gather with those we've forgiven, being forgiven countless times ourselves, can be a place of joy and peace as we celebrate that nothing separates us. As we come to the Table today, think about anyone you have yet to forgive, and then do it.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
Loving, forgiving God, we thank you that you forgave us so much and gave us the challenge to forgive each other the same way. We thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of how much sin and hatred cost you. We pray that you would make us into your agents of forgiveness and peace as we take communion today.
In Jesus name, AMEN
