Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 20a – 24-September-23
24-September-23 (Matthew 20:1-16)
In his parable, Jesus tells us that all workers in the vineyard would be given an equal measure. Some of the workers were disappointed that they didn't receive a greater measure. As we gather around this Table, let it not be so with us. We all approach this Table as equals; equally sinners, all in need of God's forgiveness, all saved by God's grace that we celebrate here. This is no place for factions, entitlements, or anything that separates and devalues any. It is the Lord who calls each of us as God's dear children and so let us come.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
Loving Host, as you call us to this Table, let us lay aside any sense of privilege, any claim to position, any desire to leave others out that we might have. Fill our hearts with your love that reaches out to all. In that love, make us one, even as you are one.
Thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of all you gave to call us to you. Thank you for your unending, ever-reaching love for all of us.
In Jesus name, AMEN
