Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 22a – 8-October-23
8-October-23 (Matthew 21:33-46)
In the parable, Jesus reminds us that there are people who will reject his message of God's love. The thing is, that we all do that, at various times and in various ways. We're all sinners here at this table, make no mistake. The other thing is, that God loves us anyway and still wants us here. A big part of what we remember here is that God isn't going to let even a big issue like our sinfulness stand in the way of our having a relationship with God. Thankfully so.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
Loving God, we're grateful that we have this table and these elements to remind us of how much you gave to bring us to you. Remind us of our sinfulness, but also remind us of your love that calls all of us any way. Help us, in humility, to be as accepting of the others here as you are and, as we leave this table, let us share that acceptance with all we meet.
Thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of Christ, through whom we know your constant love
In Jesus name, AMEN
