Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 25a – 29-October-23
29-October-23 (Matthew 27:34-46)
Jesus tells us, in the gospel passage for today, that the focus of our life with God and each other is to love. Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. One of the places we encounter the depth of love that God desires is here at the Table. Here we remember a God who would let nothing stand between us and God; a God who would suffer and die to make a way for us. As we come to the table and remember Jesus, let us open our hearts to that love.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who held nothing back. We thank you for the assurance of your love for us that we have at this table. Thank you for these symbols, the bread and cup, that bring this all to mind again. As we remember Jesus, let us also commit to love you and love those around us with as much of your love as we can let flow through us. Fill us with that love, that we may share it with a world crying out for it.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
