Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 27A – 12-November-23
12-Nov-23
There's a small phrase, from 1 Corinthians 11:26, at the end of the traditional words of institution at the Table that goes, "you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes again." Like those young women that were called to be ready for the bridegroom's coming, we're supposed to be ready to, no matter how long it takes. One way we remain ready is to remember Jesus and particularly how he gave his life so we might have true life with God. As we sense Jesus' presence here as our host, we prepare our hearts for the time when he comes completely. So, as we come to the Table, let us prepare our hearts, and make ready once again.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God of all times and places, we want to be ready for your presence whenever and wherever it comes to us. We thank you for the symbols of bread and cup that remind us of Jesus; his life and his death for us. As we take bread and cup, prepare our hearts to receive Jesus anew and open our hearts to share the Good News of his coming with our world.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
