Table Meditation (Gospel) for Proper 6a – 18-June-23
18-June-23 (Matthew 9:35-10:8)
When Jesus sent out the twelve, it was one of the first steps in broadcasting the message that God's love was for all people. He didn't send them very far at first. That was to come later. The message was preached first in Judea with the intent of going into all the world when the time was right.
Part of the message of love is that there are no barriers of time, space, background, or upbringing. There can be no barriers that stand in the way either of God's love or of that love as we share it with each other. As we come to the Table today, let us remember that, through his sacrifice, Jesus tore down every barrier between us and God. All are welcome here, because the Host, Jesus Christ has opened the way for all of us.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God of us all, We thank you that you have opened the way for us all to your Table. As we come into your presence today, instill in us that same Spirit that will overcome all barriers and open the way for others. Thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of how much you gave in love for us all.
In Jesus name, AMEN.
