Table Meditation (Gospel) for Trinity A – 4-June-23
4-June-23 (Matthew 28:16-20)
In the passage from Matthew, Jesus tells the disciples to "Go and make disciples of all nations." We can talk about the fact that there's still work for us to do to complete this task, but what I'd like to talk about is what to do with those disciples when they're made. We need to welcome them into the fold, to let them know that they belong with us. There's no better time to do that than at this table. The Lord, our host has called us all here. So, open your hearts to all those who stand beside you in every time and place, coming before our Lord to celebrate communion. Let us pray.
Prayer:
God of us all, we thank you that you have called us all to your Table. Fill our hearts with the same loving spirit that drove you to open the way for us to have right relationships with you and with each other. Thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of how much you gave in love for us all.
In Jesus name, AMEN.
