Table Meditation for World Communion Sunday 6-Oct-24
6-Oct-24
Today is World Communion Sunday, the Sunday where Christians all over the world are reminded that the great gift of the life and death of Jesus is for all people everywhere. This table is wider than our world and the welcome is just as wide. Jesus calls each and every one to encounter the love of God that was so great that nothing, even our own sinful nature, even the ways of humanity that put him on the cross, would stand in the way of that love being offered to all. As we come to the table today, consider the love of God, not just for a select few, but for each and every one -- all of us, everywhere.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God whose love knows no boundaries, remind us that your Word is one of communion, not division. Your gifts are gifts of abundance, peace, and freedom, not scarcity, violence, and oppression. We thank you that in Christ you have given us greatest gift: your very self. We thank you for these symbols that remind us that your boundless love that we know through Jesus. As we gather today, may your gifts and your presence be received with joy and humility. As we leave this time of communion, may we carry that Good News into your world that cries out to hear it.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, Amen.
