We know the story of the wise men. Or do we? Pastor Russ reviews the story from Matthew 2:1-12 and helps us see that the wise men brought some gifts for us as well.

As we celebrate the coming of Christ, the carols we sing often refer to Jesus as "the Prince of Peace." Yet we see in our world that peace is rare and fleeting. What does it mean that Jesus came as Prince of Peace and what kinds of peace does he bring? Pastor Russ uses Isaiah 9:2-7 to talk about the four ways that Jesus makes peace for us.
This Christmas service continues the theme of our Advent worship using the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
The theme for Christmas Day is taken from the seventh verse:
O come, desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease
and be thyself our King of peace

The theme is "Jesus is the bringer of peace to the world". Jesus brings us together in one family.

We Christians celebrate the coming of Jesus once every year, but Jesus also comes to be in our hearts. For that reason, we can celebrate Jesus coming every day of our lives. Pastor Amy speaks from Ephesians 1:15-23 about seeing Christ in us every day, giving us new insights and wisdom.
Our observance of Advent continues in the service. Advent is a time of remembering Jesus' coming to us. We observe Advent each year to remind us that, although Jesus has already come, what will fully come in God's time has not yet arrived. We still must wait and anticipate the fullness of God's rule and realm.
This year, our Advent theme uses the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
Each Sunday and Advent and on Christmas Day, we will have one verse from that hymn as the theme for the day.

Jesus himself lived his life as an outsider and recognizing and welcoming those who were often left out and forgotten was a large part of his ministry. Jeremiah spoke to his people both in times when safety and prosperity led them to take God's presence for granted and in times when they were defeated, in exile, and mourning the loss of all they'd trusted in. Pastor Russ uses Jeremiah 33:14-16, written for one of those later times, to encourage us when we feel like strangers and exiles in our world.
We begin the time of Advent with this service. Advent is a time of remembering Jesus' coming to us. When we call Jesus Christ our King, we mean something different from the kings of this world, who use power over others. Pastor Bob uses John 18:33-37 to show us how Jesus is "No Ordinary King."
Our worship today is 30 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

The world is full of people who provoke others, but we as Christians are called to provoke other to love and good deeds. How do we do that? Pastor Russ uses the text from Hebrews 10:19-25 to help us understand how we can truly stir each other up in the right way.
