DisciplesNet Worship #765 Christmas 1 – (Shaw 12.29.2024)

"A tiny baby, lying in a manger…" is the image we see of Jesus so much this time of year. And in worship this week, the first Sunday after Christmas Day, we celebrate the birth of Christ. We'll sing some of our favorite Christmas hymns and more. Yet Pastor Bob Shaw reminds us, in message based upon Luke 2:41-52, that we cannot leave Jesus in the manger. He became a man, and we need to let Jesus do that very thing in our minds and hearts. Our prayer is that this worship will be meaningful to you, with a chance to celebrate the birth of Christ as we grow into followers of Christ.

"But you, O Bethlehem…" are words shared by the prophet Micah to Israel during the eighth century BCE. What did this prophecy mean? Join us today as we look at these words from so long ago, their meaning then and their meaning now in each of our lives. Pastor Russ brings our special message today, speaking from Micah 5:2-5a.

In our lives of faith there are many saints who have gone before us and shown us how to work out our faith. We are thankful for their examples and their instruction. This service is a celebration of those people, especially ones who have already gone into eternity. "Do you want to be made well?" It seems like a silly question at first, but Jesus asked Bartimaeus if he wanted to be healed. Do you want to be healed? Do you want to be forgiven?
Rev. Charles Webb Jr. speaks to us from Mark 10:46-52 and helps us wrestle with asking God to act in our lives.
Join us for 28 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.
